October 2008 Artist of the Month
In the words of the artist, “My name is Phil Willman. I am pursuing my Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree at Northern Illinois University. I began painting three years ago in Charlotte Rollman’s Watercolor I class. At the time, I was an Art Education major. I enjoyed painting so much I changed my major to watercolor painting. In the fall of 2007, I took my first oil painting class with Katie Kahn. This art show visually demonstrates how two people have influenced my work.
“My watercolors are an experiment with color, subject matter, technique, and observation. These paintings are my favorite examples of that process.
“The oil paintings are my first exploration of the classic medium. The subject matter ranges from the narrative to abstraction. Most of my oil paintings now contain a signature trait or symbol. Can you tell what it is?
“Thank you for visiting. I would also like to thank my instructors, my parents, K. and R., and to all my friends and acquaintances.”
