Highlights
- Summer Sunday hours were increased: Now noon to 5:00 pm year-round
- Library newsletter Discover was redesigned to be more readable and informative
- Library website homepage was redesigned for user-friendliness
- Construction of a new 43-space parking lot began
- Library received a Small Business Administration grant to improve business resources
- Shoutbomb text-messaging service was added
- Remote book drop was installed in Wayne
- Library Friends, Junior Friends, and Volunteers donated 1,900+ hours of service
- $400 was raised from the Giving Tree for resources for Illinois Youth Center;1,500+ withdrawn and donated books were donated to IYC and Kane County Adult Corrections Center
Use of Library Resources
- 1,621,426 books and other items were checked out (29.4 per capita; -0.9%)
- 61% of checkouts = adult/young adult; 39% = children/students through 8th grade
- 245,219 unique visits to the Library website
- 2,032,985 Library website pages were viewed
- Mobile website users increased 524%
- There were 506,454 actual patron visits to the Library (9.19 per capita)
- 146,016 reference questions were asked: 2.65 per capita
- 50.35% of residents have current SC library cards (of 55,092 library district residents)
- E-book use was up 404%
- Video game use increased 38%
- 403 virtual reference questions were answered for remote users (+ 7%)
- 364 people attended 44 free computer classes
- Users of downloadable resources were up 166%
- Users of downloadable music were up 108%
- 169 people attended 18 drop-in e-book training sessions
Resource Facts
- Public fax module was added to SimpleScan station
- Self-check station software was enhanced to allow card number entry
- 20% more was spent in 2012 on electronic resources than in 2011
- 19% of the Library’s total budget was spent on library books and other resources
- Total materials collection increased 3.7%, from 381,160 to 395,183
- 63% of the collection was adult and young adult material; 37% children and students through 8th grade
- A new format, Playaway View, was added
- The book collection increased 3.7% from 308,873 to 320,426
- The DVD, CD, etc. collection grew 3.4% from 72,287 to 74,747
- 38,166 items were added to the collection; 28,305 were withdrawn
