Aurora University Volunteer Income Tax Assistance   630-844-7557

The VITA workshops dates for spring 2012 are:

  • Saturday, Feb. 18, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.; completed tax returns can be picked up Feb. 25 between noon and 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 3, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.; completed tax returns can be picked up March 10 between noon and 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 24, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.; completed tax returns can be picked up March 31 between noon and 2 p.m.

VITA workshops are held at Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place. For more information, please call 630-844-7557.

Bring prior year’s income tax return, social security card, driver’s license, W2, and any 1099 forms. This service is available to taxpayers earning up to $50,000, disabled persons, elderly and non-English-speaking taxpayers.  Bilingual students will provide translation assistance for Spanish-speaking taxpayers.

The Center for Economic Progress provides free tax help to working families throughout Illinois. With over 30 tax sites, we are ready to help families get the most out of tax time.

In 2012, our tax sites will be open from January 21, 2012 through April filing date. Note that some tax sites have varying opening dates.

Senior Tax assistance is available on Wednesdays: 

  • February 1, 2012 through April 11, 2012. 
  • Please call to schedule an appointment.  Appointments are scheduled for 12 noon and 1:30 pm.

Service is available for low to middle income seniors.  Please bring SS Card, Photo ID along with  all W-2s, 1099s if any, SSA 1099s, unemployment compensation statements, Federal Income taxes paid, a copy of last year’s tax return, and any other items required for completing the tax returns.

Gail Borden Public Library Tax Counseling Project   (847) 742-2411

The Gail Borden Public Library will again host the Tax Counseling Project.  Services are free to families (more than one person in home) with incomes of less than $45,000 and individuals with incomes less than $20,000.  This service is available from January 21, 2012 through April 17, 2012.

Hours of operation: 

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday:  5:30 pm - 8 pm; Saturday:  1pm – 5 pm
  • After February 23, 2012:  Monday, Wednesday & Saturday hours only

Please bring the following items:  a valid Photo ID, Social Security Card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for all family members; all W-2's and 1099's, if any;  a copy of prior year’s tax returns, property tax bill, college expenses, if any; if choosing to direct deposit the refund please provide a bank account number and routing number.

Senior (55+) tax assistance is being provided by the American Association of Retired Persons Tax-Aide Volunteers in conjunction with Geneva Township.  Please call Sherry to schedule an appointment.  

Hours of operation starting February 14, 2012:

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays:  10 am - 4 pm

Please bring the following items: photo ID, SS Card, prior year’s tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, any additional materials needed to file taxes.

Waubonsee Community College, Aurora Campus   (630) 466-2263

Waubonsee Community College participates in the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). Tax assistance sessions are held at the college's Aurora Campus:  January 28, 2012 through April 14, 2012, (closed Saturday March 17, 2012).

Hours of operation:

  • Wednesday:   5:30 - 9 pm and Saturday: 9 am - 12 pm

This service is available for families whose annual income is less than $40,000, and individuals whose annual income is less than $15,000.
Please bring photo ID, SS card, prior year’s tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, any additional materials needed to file taxes.
