Adriana Trigiani

stripe

Adriana TrigianiAdriana Trigiani, author of the bestselling Big Stone Gap series, writes from the heart about the complexities of being a woman—about love and work and the difficult choices that emanate from them.

Adriana began writing her novels after giving up an unsuccessful stage comedy career.  Her first professional writing experiences began in the world of television:  the Cosby Show, A Different World and other programs.   Adriana was encouraged by her agent to rewrite one of her many original sitcom scripts into a novel, hence inspiring the creation of her very popular Big Stone Gap trilogy.

Trigiani’s works maintain feeling, a sense of warmth and emphasize the values of family life, often set in small-town America.  Her trilogy takes place in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, where she grew up as part of a large Italian-American immigrant family of nine.  The series maintains a southern edge and explores the various challenges of a quirky 35 year-old self-proclaimed spinster who finds love and all the joys and challenges that it brings to her life.   The settings for Adriana’s novels possess a charming international flair as each lead character inevitably takes a trip to Italy to meet or revisit extended relatives.  Delicious Italian recipes are tucked away into her writings and these add to the richness of her books as well as the tight-knit family which she idealizes.

Another of Trigiani’s works, Lucia Lucia, tells the retrospective story of an older woman growing up in Manhattan in the 1950s. Adriana’s latest publication, Rococo, is a departure from her previous novels in that it is dominated by a male character.  She is currently adapting Big Stone Gap into a movie; a production which she will also direct.   Trigiani is a successful playwright,  having written and directed her first play while still a college student.   A fourth installment of the Big Stone Gap Series and her most recent novel, Return to Big Stone Gap, is scheduled to be released September 2006.
