 |
Joanna Trollope is no stranger to fiction. She has been publishing her beloved titles for over thirty years: first as a successful author of romantic historical fiction under both her own name and the pseudonym “Caroline Harvey”, and later as her popularity and her literary merit increased, as a writer of several titles emphasizing women’s lives and relationships. 1992 marked the year of her release of The Men and the Girls, a novel which signified a change in her professional life as the first of many other books which have offered the reader “…satisfying, layered tales of English middle-class life --of love, friendship, and family – and of capable women placed in challenging situations.” (Novelist)
Trollope’s characters are both complex and believable, with a focus on the female. Her engrossing but leisurely-paced contemporary novels reveal various contrasts which illuminate many of life’s nuances. Family is a consistent theme as closely-knit, multi-generational examples of family life and what embodies and tests this often non-traditional unit are examined. Fans appreciate Trollope’s ability to engage readers on such an intimate level, allowing them to personally identify with the many familiar challenges her characters face.
Joanna Trollope was born in 1943. She has described her childhood as spending many unhappy school days in Surrey, England until she later studied at Oxford University and became a teacher. She began writing in the evenings after her children went to bed and in 1980 she later became a full-time author. Married twice and currently living on her own in London, Joanna is the mother of two daughters, two stepsons and she is now a grandmother. Joanna generously supports six charities in her spare time, and credits life and it’s various stages as being the greatest influence on her writing. Her own experiences have helped shape and contribute to her universal appeal, leaving her readers eagerly anticipating her next novel.
