Social Networking Safety

Who's Your FriendIf you are using Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, or Ning, or some of the other websites that let people create their own content or connect with other people, you may or may not have heard these sites referred to as "social networking" sites. Some people think that these sites are used mostly for meeting people, which is not usually the case. Some adults may not realize that when we use Amazon or EBay, the same principles and functionality are being used. Sometimes adults worry about risks and dangers of using social networking sites, or hear about instances where people have posted information publicly that they later wished they had kept private. Here are some places you can get more information about online privacy and safety, and information you can share with parents about responsible and meaningful uses of social networking software:
