This is the tale of a mouse who must save a human princess. Despereaux has done the unspeakable. He has spoken to humans and he even claims to be in love with the Princess Pea. For this, the High Mouse Council sentences him to be thrown into the dungeon where the rats will surely kill him. Despereaux, though, escapes the dungeon only to find that his precious princess has been kidnapped by a wicked rat and a poor dimwitted serving girl. Despereaux must go back to the dungeon, this time by his own choice, in order to save the princess he loves. This Newbery winner is a tale of romance, adventure, chivalry and . . . soup.

Theodosia's adventures continue to revolve around ancient artifacts at the Museum of Legends and Antiquities. Who would have guessed that going to a magic show with her friend Sticky Will would lead to extraordinary events involving an emerald tablet, secrets about her birth place, a funeral, and the very interesting Great Awi Bubu? And how does Clive Fagenbush fit into all of this? The first book in the series is Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos followed by Theodosia and the Staff of Osiris and then this one.

Tombs. Mummies. Curses. Secret Societies. Mystery. Theodosia Throckmornton knows a lot about ancient Egypt and that is a good thing given all the peculiar happenings that come her way. Her mother is an archaeologist, her father is the head curator of the Museum of Legends and Antiquities in London, and her brother, well, he's younger and that is enough said about that. So, as you would expect, Theo spends plenty of time at the museum and it is her ability to feel and see ancient curses that are attached to artifacts that causes all the trouble. The legendary Heart of Egypt amulet is the most cursed artifact Theo has ever encountered. From the moment it comes to the museum, Theo's life is changed and if she does not find a way to return the amulet to Egypt, the British Empire will crumble. Theo's dangerous quest will have you on the edge of your seat. This is the first book in the series followed by Theodosia and the Staff of Osiris and Theodosia and the Eyes of Horus.
