Illustrated with many beautiful photographs, this is a humorous and charming introduction to farm life and the realities of a world far away from suburbs and shopping malls.

This is the true story of two great friends: a baby hippo named Owen, and a 130-year-old giant tortoise named Mzee. In December 2004, a frightened young hippo, separated from his family by the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia, adopted an ancient Aldabra tortoise as his 'mother.' The tortoise, for years a loner, accepted the baby hippo as his own, and they are now inseparable. Their unexpected story has captured hearts everywhere, and shows the power of friendship even in the face of tragedy.

The book offers an intriguing look at the life of an owl, from egg to owlet to fierce bird of prey. Owls have powerful claws called talons, very important to them as hunters. Of the 140 different kinds of owls, 21 live in North America. Most owls hunt at night, but, day or night, they can see much better than people. How these night creatures can fly, and do so silently to capture their prey, are answered in the book. If you would like to know more information about owls, READ THIS BOOK!

In this book, photographed at the Wolong Nature Reserve in China, sixteen baby pandas are shown playing, eating, napping, and being cuddled by their panda mothers and their human caretakers. Even though a panda can be seen in some zoos, all pandas belong to China and are on loan to the zoos. This is a delightful book of photographs and tells a perfectly wonderful story of the life of young pandas. My favorite photo was of the sixteen pandas napping.
