Baby Owl is exploring the woods by himself, but every animal he encounters fusses over him, gives him a hug, and tells him how cute he is. He thinks that he's a 'huge and scary hunting machine,' but none of the other animals seem to understand that. He insists over and over, 'I'm not cute!' but it doesn't do any good. When he returns home, will his mother say he's cute, too? Or does she know that he's really a fierce owl? For continued adventures with Baby Owl, check out 'I'm Not Scared!'

To the Maasai people of Kenya, the cow means life. These people were once feared warriors, now they live peaceably as nomadic cattle herders. Kimeli's greatest dream as a child was to own his own cow. In September of 2001, he was studying to be a doctor in New York City. He was there on September 11. Upon returning home, he told his village about the horrible attack on the twin towers. Like Kimeli, his people were moved to compassion. They decided together to give the American people a gift. They presented 14 of their most precious possessions, their cows, to an American ambassador.

Woodleigh Hubbard (1991), 28 pages
Illustrated by Woodleigh Hubbard
Audience: Preschool - Preschool
Category: Picture Books

2 is for Dancing provides colorful, engaging illustrations that associate numbers with actions, such as 1 is for dreaming and 2 is for dancing. Beyond these two, the number doesn't always sensibly correspond with the verb, but the illustrations are humorous and fun to count.
