Kevin Boland has a secret. Sure, he loves to play baseball. He even hopes to turn pro someday. His secret is that he also loves to write poetry, but not the mushy, boring kind. Usually, his poems do not even rhyme. He keeps them in a journal and they tell of his every-day experiences. His girlfriend, Mira, doesn't really understand. Kevin's dilemma is that he has met a girl, Amy, who shares his love of poetry and even enjoys sharing her poems with him. Kevin isn't sure that he doesn't prefer Amy's company to Mira's. This book is beautifully illustrated. DiTerlizzi uses black and white to set the mood of horror and suspense. The spider taunts the fly with food, and flattering words, to get it to enter his web. He finally succeeds, and the author proceeds to let the reader know that they should never be taken in by charming words; sometimes the intent is actually evil.

The book, T4, is named after the address which was the headquarters of a Nazi organization that tried to get rid of many people whom they felt were undesirable. T4 stands for Tiergartenstrasse 4. The facts of T4 are true, but the story and characters are fiction. Paula is forced into hiding and away from her family when the Germans decided that deaf individuals could not be part of the master race. The author is deaf so feels a closeness to Paula. The book is beautifully written. It is simple and yet profound.

Illustrated in vivid, eye-catching colors that portray visions of joy and peace, this work of poetry in picture book form was written to express gratitude for Alice Walker's experience of nature as a part of her. In a rainbow of color, each line portrays the symbiotic relationship between the main character and parts of her world. While some of the ideas are abstract and may not be easily understood ('There is a sky at the end of my eye, seeing me'), they all imply comfort and connection, and those feelings are easily understood from the pictures. This work lends itself well to a quiet time of family togetherness.
