This is not your typical story about a kid who trades places with an adult. You know, where the adult is locked in a kid's body. Liam is twelve. This story really gives the reader a first-hand experience of living through the Cuban missile crisis and the excitement of becoming a teenager.
Cocky Seventh-grader, John 'Crash' Coogan, has been running over people since the day he used his first football helmet to knock his cousin flat on her backside. Shy, pacifist, Penn Webb, has been a favorite target for Crash's bullying for years. Through his grandfather's illness, Crash begins to see the value in things he had previously scorned, and he begins to see the importance of family and friendship.

Debbie, Hector, Patty, Lenny and Phil were all friends. They had been friends for a very long time. Middle school brings changes, new talents and interests and maybe their friendship will grow into something more. Or then again, maybe their friendship is fine the way it is.

Zoe Elias dreams of being a piano prodigy. She is sure that she will perform in a concert at Carnegie Hall, with a long gown and white gloves, and that the audience will love her. What she gets is an electronic organ, which plays 24 different beats with the flip of a switch. What a surprise to learn that she enjoys playing the organ, and that she is good at it!
