Setting out with his Pa during the Klondike Goldrush of 1896 in search of gold, Noah has a difficult decision to make. Pa says that he must leave his beloved cat, Shadow, behind. Unable to part with his dear friend, Noah substitutes his warm sweater in his pack for Shadow. As you read 'The Klondike Cat' by Julie Lawson, you follow Noah and his Pa, as they become members of the 'Klondike Stampede'. Through this book's beautiful illustrations, you are able to imagine Noah's long trip, first to Dyea, Alaska; onward to the White Pass Trail; across Lake Bennet down to the Yukon River; and finally reaching Dawson City. In this easy-to- read historical picture book, you learn how Noah struggles to keep Shadow safe and prove to his father that both he and Shadow can make a difference.

Lemmings are the smallest mammals in the arctic, measuring only about 5 inches. Since they only live in the arctic regions, the lemmings have adapted to their environment in many ways. Some Lemmings lose the full coat in fall and re-grow a white coat to protect them for predators during the winter months. The Collared Lemming actually grows longer nails for winter to be used to help forage for food. Find out more by reading this book.

Soon, the lion becomes a regular at the library, helping Miss Merriweather, and charming the patrons. But when Miss Merriweather breaks her arm, the lion roars to Mr. McBee for help. This winner of the 2010 Caldecott Medal is a nearly wordless adaptation of one of Aesop's beloved fables. Varied perspectives, including panels of close-ups, will make you want to stop on every page to examine the detail. Words are not needed to show how important friends are- - big or small.
