Despereaux, though, escapes the dungeon only to find that his precious princess has been kidnapped by a wicked rat and a poor dimwitted serving girl. Despereaux must go back to the dungeon, this time by his own choice, in order to save the princess he loves. This Newbery winner is a tale of romance, adventure, chivalry and . . . soup.

Puppy lovers will enjoy seeing ten puppies adopted and raised. With colorful illustrations, the different puppies are compared by their features, each time with the two groups of puppies numbering a total of ten. 'Nine had pink tongues. One had a blue tongue.' This work might be used to identify a number of concepts (colors, shapes, and numbers), as an introduction and practice tool for simple addition, or simply as a counting book for the youngest children.
