Travis and his kid sister, Corey, are known throughout the family as 'high-spirited' kids that love to play tricks on unsuspecting people. When Travis and Corey are sent to the Fox Hill Inn to help their grandmother for the summer, they are both looking for adventure. After hearing that the Inn is supposedly haunted, Travis and Corey decide to 'make' a ghost appear at midnight. With the help of a flashlight, makeup, a filmy white scarf, and some well-timed screams, the kids awaken a real ghost - Ada Haggs, an evil and vengeful spirit, as well as all the lovely bad ones (the children she tormented when Fox Hill Inn was the county poor farm). Events soon spiral out of control, and Travis and Corey must discover a way to get rid of Ada and stop the haunting. Will they be able to put Ada and the children to rest, or will Fox Hill Inn be haunted forever?

Liz is helping her grandmother pack and clean the old house that has been in the family for years. She awakens suddenly in the middle of the night when she hears a voice. A blue light highlights a woman in an old-fashioned dress that seems to be beckoning her to follow. When Liz travels back to log-cabin days she meets her ancestors, and on one visit is able to provide important help for a sick baby. This gentle story would appeal to readers interested in history, time travel, and benevolent ghosts.

Natalie Minks' big secret is that she cannot ride the special bicycle she and her father rebuilt. Her father owns the bicycle repair shop in the town of Arcane, Missouri. The year is 1913, ten years after another pair of bicycle repair shop owners, Wilbur and Orville Wright, first began their experimental airplane flights. Natalie's mother tells the most amazing stories about people who live and have lived in their town, such as the time old Tom Guyot met the Devil and won a guitar playing contest with him. Natalie wonders if the story could be true. While the town doctor is called away to another town to battle a mysterious illness, Dr. Jake Limberleg is forced to stop in Arcane, due to a broken wagon wheel. He sets up his Nostrum Fair and Technological medicine show right outside the town. Dr. Limberleg claims to be able to diagnose and cure any illness, a claim which seems to be true. Natalie finds Dr. Jake Limberleg and his fellow 'scientists' to be highly suspicious. Could Dr. Limberleg be in league with the Devil?
