Where do monsters go when they need their hair trimmed, or a shave and a scare cut? Once a month, a small boy opens up his dad's barber shop after midnight for an assortment of monster clients. Whether using scissors, clippers, or weed whackers, the boy has them looking their frightful best in no time. The illustrations are cute and the monsters not too scary in this amusing picture book.

Stine presents 13 stories of suspense and horror in this collection by the writers of the 'hottest' names in thriller writing. (I wonder if he chose 13 because it is sometimes known as an unlucky number?) Each story begins rather blandly, but builds to the end with much suspense and/or horror. My favorites are' Shadow Children' and 'The Poison Ring.' Another realm is introduced in Shadow Children where shadow versions can replace real children. In The Poison Ring, a girl is sent on a trail of deception and danger. All of the other stories are very, very haunting.

This is a collection of 10 scary stories. First, there's the tale of Luke, who befriends Steven so he'll help him on his homework and tests. Steven is a very strange kid, who lives with all his stuffed pets, and creates things out of them. He made his stuffed hamster come to life by making it a robot. Everything was great with Luke and Steven, until Luke tells the school what a weird kid Steven is. Steven is very upset and vows to get even. Cut to the last scene of the story, and there's Luke back, at school after visiting Steven. But why does Luke now have these lips like chiseled stone, and eyes that are blue and clear like glass?? There are other scary tales about cats that take over a town; a boy watching a video that suddenly shows his future; an archaeologist, who discovers a pharaoh's tomb, only to end up cursed, and locked away in the tomb with the pharaoh.

Blake has never been close to his younger brother, Quinn. While Blake is probably the most level-headed perfectionist you'll ever meet, Quinn is a real 'wild child.' Quinn has multiple facial piercings, and a taste for danger that nearly kills him, again and again. After a cruel fight between the two brothers, Quinn disappears to a supernatural amusement park that drives the kids inside the park crazy, if it doesn't kill them first. Blake knows this is Quinn's type of place, and he realizes that it's up to him to save his brother. A wicked entity, in the shape of a young woman, provides an embodiment for the malicious intent of the park and the park is somehow connected to a dark event in Blake's past that he must eventually face before he, Quinn, and his friends are set free.
