Toby Wheeler is a gym rat, and he's happy with that. Why would he want to be tied to practices in organized basketball when he can be a free man playing basketball at the recreation center? Toby's best friend, JJ, plays for the team, and as far as Toby can see, it's a lot of work. When JJ seems to be slipping away from Toby to spend time with his new friends, and the new coach encourages Toby to come out for the team, he decides to give it a shot. Could it be worth it, though, if the only position he has on the team is as a benchwarmer?

I really enjoyed reading this book. The action in it was just the right amount. I liked the way the character of Kristy was portrayed.
Jazz loves to run. It makes her feel free. She is excited to start on the track team with her friends except for one thing: her dad. He is a wonderful, kind father in many ways, like bringing Jazz her favorite ice cream when she's upset. However, when it comes to track, his intensity is overwhelming. When he's there, Jazz feels so tense about running that she makes mistakes at meets. Will Jazz find a way to talk to her father about track without hurting his feelings?
