Read the book that inspired the movie! Dorothy and her dog Toto are swept by a tornado into a strange world inhabited by munchkins, witches, and other creatures. In company with a Cowardly Lion, a Scarecrow, and a Tin Woodman, she has many adventures on her way to the Emerald City. Will the great Wizard there send her home again to Kansas? This edition is beautifully illustrated with W.W. Denslow's original illustrations. If you enjoy this book, be sure to read the other books about Oz.

Thirteen year old Samuel lives with his mother and father on a small frontier farm on the far edge of colonial Pennsylvania. His parents grew up in the city, but Samuel grew up in the wilderness. The woods are a part of him and he feels like a part of the woods. One day, he is out hunting for meat for his family when he smells smoke. By the time he gets back to his farm, he finds that their entire settlement has been attacked. Most of the settlers have been ruthlessly killed, but a few, including his parents, have been taken prisoner. Samuel uses his knowledge of the woods to track the attackers and their prisoners. In this way, he becomes deeply involved in the Revolutionary War which up to this point had seemed to have so little to do with him. Woods Runner tells a story of the harsh reality of the war that cost the colonists so much, but that ended in the birth of our country.

Dixon Woods knows he has no shot at making the Wolfbay Wings Squirt A Team, the best hockey team in the area. His mother is a classic overachiever, though, so that's the team where he must win a place. At tryouts, Dixon sees that this team is not last year's team, the team that won fifty-four games and lost only two: the star players and their coach have abandoned the Wolfbay Wings for another club. With the hardest competition gone, Dixon makes the team. Will Dixon and the others fall flat without the star players, or can they succeed on their own? Woodsie is the first in the series about the Wolfbay Wings.
