Luke Garner doesn't exist, at least not officially. Families aren't legally allowed to have more than two children, but his parents have secretly disobeyed. So Luke hides, because if anyone knows he exists, he is in grave danger. He can't go to school, can't make any friends, and his grandparents don't even know he's alive. When the government builds new homes next to his parents' farm, Luke can no longer go outside, or even look out a window. The population police monitor everything. One day, peering through a hidden vent he discovers in his attic room, he
sees a face in the window of a house nearby. The family living at the house has already left for the day. With this, Luke discovers there may be other children like him. When he decides to investigate, he discovers a whole world he never knew. Is he willing to risk everything to hold on to it?
