Watch out! The snowball is rolling your way! This fast-paced, rhyming tale about a snowball that rolls out of control (taking a few people with it) is a funny, engaging read. With repetition, rhyme, and laugh-out-loud illustrations, this is a story you'll want to read again and again. With each two-page spread covered with pictures and typically including only one sentence, The Snowball is a perfect choice for newly independent readers. (Reading Level: 1.9)

With appealing drawings and a catchy rhythm to the text, this Rookie Reader about all types of dwellings is an unexpectedly entertaining read. Each two-page spread contains a phrase surrounded by white space on one page ('A house made of logs') and an illustration that is filled with gentle, bright color combinations on the accompanying page. This is a great choice for those brand-new to reading who can be intimidated by more than just a few words on each page. (Reading Level: 2.0)

'Sojourner Truth, Path to Glory' written by Peter Merchant is a young reader's first introduction to the freedom fighter, Sojourner Truth. Isabella Baumfree, who later changed her name to Sojourner Truth, was born a slave in New York State. She spent most of her young life being sold to different land owners. She was treated cruelly and longed for the day when she would be free. Due to the New York State Emancipation Act of 1827, Isabella was granted her freedom. From then on she devoted her life to preaching about the rights of all people to be free and for a women's right to vote.
