After Curzon and Isabelle escape from revolutionary New York City, their troubles are just beginning. An argument over whether or not to look for Isabelle's sister Ruth causes the pair to go their separate ways. Curzon finds himself alone when he stumbles into the Battle of Saratoga. After saving the life of a private, who happens to be the Sergeant's nephew, he enlists as a freeman in his unit. The company marches, along with the rest of the Continental Army, to Valley Forge where they face a winter of starvationa and lack of adequate clothing or shelter.
