Hana's Suitcase

Karen Levine (2003), 120 pages
Audience: 5th Grade - 8th Grade
Category: Historical, Nonfiction
At a Holocaust education center in Japan, the director creates a display of personal items from Holocaust victims. A suitcase with the name Hana Brady written on it grabs the attention of the director and children who see the display. Who was Hana Brady and what happened to her? The director follows many clues to answer these questions. The book is written in chapters that alternate between Hana's story and the search for answers to the mystery that begins with only a suitcase and a name. Though overall the story is sad, there is a surprisingly positive ending.
