Pop! The Invention of Bubble Gum

Meghan McCarthy (2010), 32 pages
Audience: K - 3rd Grade
Category: Nonfiction
Chewing gum has been around a long, long time. Ancient Greeks chewed sap from mastic trees, American Indians chewed spruce resin and they have even found chewed sap in Sweden that is at least 9,000 years old. But none of that gum could be used to blow bubbles! In the 1920's, an accountant at the Fleer Gum company became fascinated by the company's attempts to create a new kind of gum. Long after the scientists had given up, he continued to play around with different formulas until he came up with something that would change the world of gum chewing forever!
