Ghosts of Rathburn Park

Zilpha Keatley Snyder (2002), 192 pages
Audience: 5th Grade - 8th Grade
Category: Fiction, Scary
Matt Hamilton and his family have just moved to Timber City. At the annual 4th of July town picnic at Rathburn Park, Matt hears about the fire that destroyed the original town, and all the ghosts that haunt the park. Although he's been warned not to, while he's there, he goes for a walk in the mysterious woods. Matt gets lost. He is led out by a dog, a dog no one else can see. Then he meets a mysterious girl named Amelia. Amelia says that she lives on the Rathburn Estate, even knows her way around, and all the secret passages. But her old fashioned clothing, and the fact that Matt's been told the only one living there is an old lady, cause him to wonder about her. Can she be one of the ghosts he's heard about?
