Anna Mary Robertson (Grandma Moses) is one of the most well-known folk artists in United States history. This picture book traces her lifetime, using painting as her medium. Her interest in drawing and painting started when she was still in school, and continued until her death on December 13, 1961 at age 101. In 1938, Grandma Moses decided to exhibit some of her paintings in the Hoosick Falls drugstore. And, as luck would have it, an art collector from New York saw her pictures, and fell in love with them. In 1940, the Museum of Modern Art displayed a few of her paintings in an exhibit of unknown American painters, and her career was born. Everyone loved the scenes of long-ago - quilting bees, playing in the snow, and families getting together on the holidays. Through her pictures, people felt that they knew her, and everyone started to call her Grandma Moses
