Category: Historical, Nonfiction
Did you know that words and phrases like puppy-dog, 'to be or not to be,' 'knock knock - who's there?' and puke were all invented by the same man? William Shakespeare was a famous poet, and playwright, in 17th century England. He wrote many famous plays, like Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Twelfth Night. Shakespeare's plays are still being performed. The Globe was a theatre Shakespeare, and others, built so they could perform their plays. The Puritans closed all the theatres in London after William Shakespeare died. In 1988, a man named Sam Wanamaker, began building an exact replica of The Globe in London, and now, we can see Shakespeare's plays performed just like he did long ago.
