For 7th grader Tobin McCauley, life isn't easy. His mother died five years ago. Since then, his older two brothers and sister have become nearly juvenile delinquents. When his Dad is home, he only stares at the television, and his Granny desperately needs to improve her driving and people skills. Add that to the fact that Tobin is friendless and an underachiever.
