Enter the war zone of World War II and meet fourteen-year-old Nick Freestone. When the Freestone's apartment is demolished, his mother decides the situation in England has grown too unstable. To keep him safe, Nick's mother sends him off to Burma, to live with his father on the family's teak plantation. Nick is intrigued by Burma and especially by the timber elephants on the plantation.
