Enter the war zone of World War II and meet fourteen-year-old Nick Freestone. When the Freestone's apartment is demolished, his mother decides the situation in England has grown too unstable. To keep him safe, Nick's mother sends him off to Burma, to live with his father on the family's teak plantation. Nick is intrigued by Burma and especially by the timber elephants on the plantation. Intrigue is soon taken over by fear, as Nick's father is taken prisoner by Japanese solders. Nick becomes a servant to the Japanese and wonders what will become of him and his father. Nick and his friend Mya plan on escaping from the Japanese. What will become of their plan? Find out by reading Elephant Run.
