Ranging from situations about the earliest years of elementary school (the first day) to the latter years (of word problems and science projects), these poems depict common and uncommon experiences in attending school. Some poems are humorous, describing ridiculous, impossible, or unexpected situations (such as the science project to make a brother disappear or the band teacher whose personality changes once he begins wearing earplugs). Others describe real problems, like jealousy or fear of public speaking. The last poem, designed for two voices, is a description of a best friendship.
