Kezi's mother is ill and fighting for her life. Kezi's father swears an oath to the god Admat that, if Kezi's mother recovers, he will sacrifice the first person who congratulates him on her recovery. Before her aunt can, Kezi congratulates him and so, must be sacrificed, or Admat will be angry and wreak vengeance on her family.
The Akkan god of the winds, Olus, has watched this all from afar. He has fallen in love with Kezi and must now find some way to save her.
