Book Group Participation Guidelines

  • Register and pick up book titles at the ASK ME Desk.
  • Registration is limited to 18 students per book discussion.
  • Register for all discussions or be selective.
  • Book discussion will start promptly.
  • Bring a copy of the book with you to the discussion.

Book Group Etiquette

  • Listen when others are talking. Respect other people’s ideas. Speak when there is an opportunity; don’t interrupt.
  • What you say needs to be contributed with responsibility and respect for yourself and for the group.

Attendance Guidelines:

Please call the ASK ME Desk at 630-584-9390 when you are unable to attend a program you are registered for.

Requests for special accommodations must be made 48 hours in advance. If assistance is needed in using the Library, please inform the Library Assistant at the main circulation desk. The Discover Your Library! publication is available to St. Charles Library cardholders in large print, on audio cassette or in Braille by calling Special Services at 584-0076, Ext. 219.

Registration & Attendance Procedures

In-person and online event registration begins:
Summer – Saturday, May 18 - Registration Form
Fall – Saturday, September 7

Telephone registration begins
Summer – Tuesday, June 18 
Fall – Tuesday, September 10

Youth Services events are offered for children and students through grade 8 residing in the St. Charles Public Library District. A child’s, student’s, or parent’s St. Charles Library card is required. Grandparents may register grandchildren for certain events with the symbol grandparents.

Child or student must be the appropriate age or grade to be registered for an event. Each eligible person attending an event must be registered. Registration is on a first come basis and continues until all openings have been filled. Drop-in seating may be available.

Families living outside the Library District may attend certain events for a fee on a space available basis. Check-in at the ASK ME Desk 15 minutes before the event. All attendees must meet the age or grade requirements. Nonresident seating will begin 5 minutes before the event. Check event listings for those that include nonresident attendance.

For your child’s safety, a parent or adult must accompany all children seven (7) years of age and under while in the Library.
